Specializing in treating complex issues with strength and compassion

Taylor McNeely, LSW

I am a Licensed Social Worker practicing in Durango, Colorado. My therapeutic practice centers around children, teens, and their families facing challenges such as divorce, eating disorders, traumatic experiences, self-harming behaviors, grief/loss, and sexual abuse. With such difficult and deeply impactful personal issues, it is vitally important to work one-on-one with my clients as well as their parents and caregivers. This helps to resource adults with tools so they can relate to their child on a deeper level and empower them with the ability to create a more secure, healthy, and loving relationships. It also creates an atmosphere and a dynamic set of coping tools for the client to be more powerful and directive in their own life choices.

What I love so much about my practice is discovering what resonates and supports each person’s specific process the most. All of us heal and express life differently and the work I do with my clients is individualized and specific to them. Through implementing dance, art, movement, and play, I create a space where the client becomes part of the process of finding exactly what they need. Through creativity, many of the challenges and traumas can be resolved in a powerful way.

DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) is a transformational technique I use to help my clients discover and begin to practice mindfulness as well as to learn the art of finding balance in their lives. This involves repatterining their ability to cope and work through life challenges in a truly effective way. I work with them in a way that helps to reinforce adaptive behaviors and to teach them techniques to manage emotional trauma in new and healthy ways. It also empowers them in recognizing their strengths so that they can build on that to feel better about their lives and feel more directive about who they want to be in the world.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is another powerful process that I’m grateful to have access to. It’s a non-invasive, physiological way to support clients who have experienced trauma, anxiety, and other seemingly insurmountable challenges. I like to think of it as addressing trauma and untangling an event(s) without having to re-live it. It’s powerful and extremely effective.

I’ve devoted my life’s work to find ways to help children and teens discover their own answers. There’s nothing more important than assisting them and guiding them back to themselves in spite of the painful things they’ve lived through. In fact, many of my clients find reverence and meaning through their challenges and can catapult themselves forward in becoming the men and women they desire to be in life.

I am here to bridge the way to hope and the possibility of a life full of purpose.

I’d love the opportunity to meet with you and see if I can be of help.
