Specializing in treating complex issues with strength and compassion

Sara A. Hunt, LCSW, CACIII

I grew up in the southwest and came to Durango to attend Fort Lewis College in 1992. I mistakenly thought I would move on to a “Big City” but fell in love with the area and met my husband to be. We married in 1995 and I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 1996. I returned to school thru the Four Corners Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver and in 2006 I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work. I am currently a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Addictions Counselor III.
I’ve worked a variety of jobs with a variety of clients and have truly learned that the people we meet in different settings can change our lives. I have experience working with at risk teens, adults with severe mental illness and people struggling with addiction.
I am excited to get the opportunity to continue working with a variety of people who want to address issues including depression, anxiety, addiction, co-occurring disorders, grief, and the full range of issues life can throw at us. My therapeutic approaches include, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Relapse Prevention, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and rely heavily on helping my clients practice Mindfulness. I feel that any of the issues we want to work on life need to be addressed holistically. I feel it is important not only to work with individuals but to look at all the systems involved.
